A Big Day for Thokki!

Thokki is now 3 1/2 years old.  Under the guidance of Knútur Berndsen, Sarah has been training Thokki in basic groundwork with the halter, leading, bending, etc.  Otherwise, he has been left to live as a young horse in our small herd.

Today Knútur came over to check out Sarah's progress with Thokki and to ramp things up a bit.

Here are a couple of videos that demonstrate the results of doing some good ground training with one of our young horses.

Thokki is three and was born on our farm.  Last summer we had Knutur Berndsen come once a week for five weeks to teach me how to do some ground work with both Thokki and his younger brother.  When we started they were already very friendly but not so easy to control and direct. Thokki spooked at everything and was no fun to lead outside the paddock. He would have been a mess to try to get into the trailer.  I did short sessions with them several times a week between the lessons.

If you watch the videos you will see that this is the best investment I could possibly have made.  Now we can't wait until next year when we can really start to ride Thokki.

But he's off to a good "start"!
